Brief Introduction
The main role of the department is diagnostic pathology for all surgical specimens along with cytopathology for both non-gynecologic and gynecologic specimens including PAP smear. Frozen sections are available in the department along with immunohistochemical panel study for breast markers & for undifferentiated tumours to reach a definite final correct diagnosis.
Field of Interest
- The main interest of the department is in breast tumours, lymphoma & GIT tumours. Moreover Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy ( FNAB ) of the breast occupies a wide interest & serves greatly the surgical staff since it has a high specificity & sensitivity rate.
Activities, Research, and Services
- Weakly meetings for discussing difficult pathological cases are held along with scientific symposiums, lectures & journal clubs once a month
- Workshops on both technical & diagnostic levels are held
- Research programs in the field of early breast cancer detection are achieved
