Brief introduction
Biomedical Engineering involves the combination of the physical, chemical, biological, and mathematical sciences with engineering principles to create solutions to a wide range of social problems associated with medical, environmental, occupational, and product development issues.
The Department is an academic unit of the Medical Research Institute. The vision is to serve to administrate biomedical engineering degree programs at all post graduate levels (established Master's and Doctoral programs). While research possibilities among the graduate faculty span the full spectrum of biomedical engineering, the Department establishes interests in biomedical instrumentation Biomedical image Processing and seeks to focus growth and excellence in these research areas as it grows.
The department objectives may be outlined as follows:
- Career Preparation: Our graduates will be prepared to excel in bioengineering, bioscience, or medical disciplines in basic and applied research, design or technology development, representing the fields of academics, government, medicine, law or industry.
- Professional Development: Our graduates will emerge as recognized experts in the field of biomedical engineering, and serve in positions of leadership in academics, government, medicine or industry.
- Professional Conduct: Our graduates will hold safety and welfare of the public, and conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
- Social Contribution: Our graduates will respond and adapt to the scientific and engineering needs of society, both nationally and internationally, seek out new opportunities, and contribute to the development of a healthy and globally competitive economy.
- Life-Long Learning: Our graduates will continually build on their undergraduate foundation of science, engineering, and societal understanding, and continue to develop their knowledge, skills, and contributions throughout their professional careers and private lives. This will include active participation in professional societies, attending and making presentations at conferences, and participating in outreach activities within their areas of expertise.
Vision
Our staff and students are all important parts of the team that provide distinctive and creative interdisciplinary solutions to biomedical engineering research and design problems. We aim for: excellence in graduate education, meaningful and innovative research, and service dedicated to advancing the field of Biomedical Engineering.
