Experiences
CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

• Pre –registration:
One year experience as a rotating house officer in Alexandria University teaching hospitals. The rounds included Casualty, Internal medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Radiology and Anesthesia departments.

• As a general Practitioner:
A compulsory service in the Egyptian ministry of health where I worked in a Maternity & Child Health Care Centre. During this year I had a good experience in the family planning department. I examined ladies looking for contraceptive methods, advice them and provide them with the most suitable method according to their medical history and physical examination.

• As a clinical fellow and an assistant lecturer in the Chemical Pathology Department:
I had a very good experience in dealing with different laboratory analysis including blood chemistry, urine chemistry, electrolytes balance, hormones and tumor markers. My job requires an in depth understanding of the rationale of the different laboratory tests and methods. I had an intensive practical training on the different types of laboratory techniques (Electrophoresis, ELISA, semi-automated & automated spectrophotometers as well as chemiluminescence analyzers). In our lab, we use conventional PCR for detecting the expression of several genes, together with detecting several gene polymorphisms. I have been also trained on performing complete blood picture, coagulation profiles and assessing different hematological problems. Total quality management is an integral part of my daily work. I am in charge of reviewing the pre-analytical variables that might affect patients’ results. Also, I supervise introducing the daily internal quality control materials on all analyzers, revising their results, deciding the acceptance and rejection criteria for the daily runs and performing the monthly internal QC analysis. As a part of the total quality management, my lab contributes in a monthly clinical chemistry proficiency test and as a part of my job; I am following the results to determine the analytical performance in the lab and to find out any systemic or random errors that may affect the reporting of results. After analyzing both internal and external quality control samples, a monthly meeting is held for the laboratory quality team and we determine the causes of any violation in the results. After that, we decide the most appropriate corrective and correcting actions to be taken. I am also responsible for reporting the results of the inpatients and outpatient clinic together with contacting the physicians in wards and discussing with them the diagnosis of different cases.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teaching the post graduate medical students is an essential part of my job as an assistant lecturer in The Chemical Pathology Department in Alexandria University. I have a good experience in teaching the principles and techniques of different laboratory tests and methods. I take a leading role in arranging small group interactive seminars with the clinical fellows in the department and with the staff members. I can set, mark, assess work and provide feedback to students about their practical performance. I am committed to equal opportunity and promotion of equality through the delivery of teaching and learning. Moreover, I am committed to provide students with an appropriate and professional role model. I am a broad minded person who is open to new ideas and new ways of teaching and interaction.

LABORATORY EXPERIENCE

I am competent in performing and teaching the following techniques:
 Spectrophotometry; manual, semi-automated and fully automated
 ELISA
 Electrophoresis
 Conventional and Real time PCR
 Manual examination of different biological fluids

QUALITY AND MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
As a certified healthcare quality professional (CPHQ), I have a good experience (before and after certification) in managing all types of healthcare settings, with special interest in medical laboratories. I am fully aware of quality improvement concepts, programs development and management, communication and education techniques, department management and coordination of survey process. Patient safety and risk management are among the most important fields I have practiced.
I shared effectively in the preparation for ISO 9001 certification and ISO 15189:2008 accreditation for medical labs, and I had attended all parts of the accreditation survey.

In the Medical Research Institute, Alexandria University, I am the Executive director of the Quality Assurance Medical Research Institute (QAMRI) Unit. I am also the head of the strategic planning committee that is responsible for preparing the strategic plan for the Medical Research Institute through performing SWOT analysis, gathering data, holding meetings with staff and employees and finally releasing the strategic plan with the MRI administration. As a head of the Quality Assurance Unit, I am leading the team in charge of setting, implementing, monitoring and controlling the quality system in the Medical research Institute. The quality executive team is composed of a number of highly qualified academic staff members who are working hard, hand in hand with the rest of the Institute's academic staff, to implement the quality standards in teaching. The executive team provides continuous advice, and is taking a leading role in improving the practice and implementing changes, aiming at improving the educational and the academic performance. We are currently working hard to prepare the Institute for accreditation, after finishing three improvement projects funded by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education. The unit performs regular internal audits on the teaching process, and on all the related academic and non-academic departments. We are in charge of preparing, distributing, analyzing and providing reports for several periodic questionnaires and surveys addressing the academic and non-academic staff members, the post-graduate students, and the patients attending the outpatient clinics in the Medical Research Institute.

During March 2013 in the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, I started the first one of a kind healthcare quality training for house officers (Titled: quality for you), together with a colleague of mine, representing the Medical research Institute. We held this training in contribution with the quality assurance unit, Faculty of Medicine and with the Egyptian Medical Syndicate. The course aimed at introducing the basics of healthcare quality, leadership, communication skills, quality improvement tools and patient safety goals to the house officers. The course duration is 8 sessions; 4 lectures alternating with 4 workshops.

I conducted a two months Healthcare Quality course (48 CMEs) in the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, Alexandria, Egypt, during August - October 2013. The course was targeting physicians, pharmacists and dentists, who have special interest in healthcare quality. Throughout the course, and using both lectures and workshops, I presented some basics and concepts about quality management in any healthcare setting, through discussing some titles such as quality tools, leadership, Poka yoke, and several other topics.
